The grizzly is one of two subspecies of brown bears. The Kodiak bear is the other subspecies. Their diet consists mainly of berries, roots, bulbs, and whitebark pine nuts. They may also prey on ground-dwelling rodents and larger animals, such as elk, moose, mountain goats and mountain sheep. Grizzlies take 8 to 10 years to fully grow. Males may weigh up to 1150 pounds and are generally up to twice as heavy as females.
